Post Traumatic Growth

May 20, 2019

Post Traumatic Growth is the stuff of stories. Heroic stories that inspire and support our sometimes measly efforts to endure aftermath.

I bet you’ve heard a lot about PostTraumatic Stress Syndrome complete with accompanying Depression, but this is a sidebar to experiencing life changing events that should be recognized and acknowledged…

So, what exactly am I talking about??

Post traumatic growth is defined as the “experience of individuals whose development, at least in some areas has surpassed what was present before the struggle with crises occurred. The individual has not only survived, but has experienced changes that are viewed as important, and that go beyond the status quo” (Tedeschi and Calhoun, 2004). I don’t recommend searching for a natural disaster to expand your horizons but I do know that personal hurricanes occur in every person’s life.  A Long Distance Move. A Death in the Family. New Job. New School. A Divorce. A New Child or Sibling.

Change is the only Constant…  What we control is how we deal with the challenge.

Post Traumatic growth is real. Take a look at five major life changing skills that can improve after a traumatic experience in the following article of Psychology Today. https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/surviving-thriving/201904/posttraumatic-growth

Meanwhile, personal hurricane or major storm… Best of Luck and Let’s keep moving forward.
